Lately.

Gluten-free homeschooling mom from Idaho.

This is my real life byline.

ā€¦I did not see this coming. šŸ˜‚

In the last 7 months, we moved across the country to Boise, Idaho. We decided to homeschool. And we found out one of the kids has celiac disease.

ā€¦I snowshoe now.

A few weeks ago I went on a trip to Nashville, and it was the first time Iā€™d been ā€œback eastā€ since our move. Someone asked me where I was from, and letā€™s just say that ā€œIdahoā€ wasnā€™t in the top three answers that came to mind. In my defense, when someone here in Boise asks me where Iā€™m from, the correct answer is ā€œNorth Carolina,ā€ so I havenā€™t had a lot of practice beingĀ from here.

See also: saying things like ā€œwe homeschoolā€ without feeling a (totally unnecessaryā€¦right?) weight of wondering how thatā€™s going to land on whoever Iā€™m talking to.

And while the kids have been so sweet and cheerful about the eradication of all gluten from our home, and Iā€™m the biggest cheerleader of our new lifestyle, on the inside Iā€™m a leeetle more mournful. BECAUSE BREAD THOUGH.

So ā€“ because I want to embrace these life twists, and because I usually find out what Iā€™m thinking when I write about it,Ā and because a year later I still wistfully think of things I would post if I was posting on my blog ā€“ Iā€™m back! Iā€™m going a little more blogging-circa-2008, so itā€™s not all gonna be food, and itā€™s not all gonna be ā€œon-brand,ā€ and thereā€™s noĀ detailed posting schedule recorded in my planner. (Is that an involuntary happy dance or a nervous twitch Iā€™m experiencing?? Unsure.)

  • ā€œAnd because I usually find out what Iā€™m thinking when I write about it...ā€. YES! This is me. šŸ¤“ (Also...welcome back, and love from your biggest fan!) šŸ˜ā¤ļø

  • I was totally totally JUST thinking of you YESTERDAY and your new celiac ā€œplightā€ as I was baking a gf pound cake for one of Sarahā€™s teachers. And actually, I was mourning bread for you. And thinking about all of the changes you would be making and how that would impact all of your lives. Also, I might have had some thoughts about how much I miss your recipes! But no pressure- seriously. šŸ¤£ Anyways, glad you are ā€œbackā€ and excited to read about your new Idaho-ian (is that even a word?) adventures. Love to all of you!!!

    • Obviously, I'm going to need your GF pound cake recipe ASAP. I think it's "Idahoan" but I feel awkward using that word, so I must not really be one yet! Thanks for thinking of us and your sweet comment!!

    • My memories of my children have been relegated to the Notes app on my phone where I occasionally write funny things they say. You still win for chronicling actual life!!
