The Perfect Bowl of Oatmeal (Part 2).

Thanks to all of you who entered the giveaway from last week, and a big congrats to the winner, Linda! :o)

If you didn’t win but you’d still like to experience the amazingness of Scottish Oatmeal, you can always order yourself some from Amazon if you can’t find it at your local store. Here’s the link!

I was intrigued by all your comments about how you top your oatmeal – I kind of wanted to put my high school Excel skillz to work and make a pie chart or something, but I don’t think I actually retained said skillz. Pretty sure traditional brown sugar and milk were the winners, though, with raisins, blueberries, bananas, and nuts making a strong showing.

If I don’t do my standard maple syrup, I like a spoonful of coconut butter and some toasted walnuts or pecans. (Coconut butter is similar to, say, peanut butter, in that it’s just smooth, blended coconut. Apparently, you can make your own!) If you like bananas, it would probably be a good tropical theme (I personally have to wash my hands if I even touch a banana). I’ve also used just a bit of coconut oil to get the coconut taste, but I can’t decide if I’m cool with adding straight up fat to my oatmeal….

Further Oatmeal Inspiration…

I searched some of my favorite blogs and of course, Pinterest, for some topping ideas to break us out of our oatmeal routines! (Note: a lot of these ideas call for steel cut oats, which are great, but of course I recommend the Scottish oats for super creamy texture – and a quicker cooking time!)

I love the idea of this super quick cranberry sauce, and mixing orange zest and juice right into your cooking oatmeal for Cookie and Kate’s Cranberry Orange Oats.

Caramelized pears? Um, yum. Check it out at Minimalist Baker!

Need to sneak a veggie into your breakfast bowl? This Carrot Cake Oatmeal from Annie’s Eats looks a-mazing.

The combination of spices in this Gingerbread Oatmeal from The Gracious Pantry sounds heavenly!

I love this post from The Kitchn with 10 sweet and savory ideas! (Do you seeee the one with cocoa powder?!)
